B arry's Tire Tech

This is a series of articles on the technical aspects of tires, their care and usage.

My primary purpose in these articles is to help people understand tires and thereby reduce the risks we all face every day.

..........and since tires is just about the only thing I know about..........

Useful Lists and Such:

Tyre Reviews.com - Jonathon Benson, a UK based journalist, does tire testing and publishes them on YouTube. This link takes you to his website, which has links to the YouTube videos. This guy is excellent!!

Wheel-Size.com - A listing of the tire and wheel specifications of many vehicles on a worldwide basis. They have much more than just tire and wheel info.

TirePressure.org - Lots of tire load tables as well as some related charts. I prefer this website over others that have load tables

TirePressure.com - Tire load tables and some related charts. I'm not a great fan of how they organized this.

TireSize.com - A Tire Size Calculator. I'm not a great fan of this one, but it has many good features. But be aware that they calculate the Revs per Mile wrong. They don't factor in that the rolling diameter is 3% smaller than the freestanding diameter - meaning you have to multiply the displayed value by 1.03!

1010Tires.com: Tire Size Calculator - A Canadian retailer of tires that has some interesting webpages - including this calculator. They got the revs per mile correct - probably because I consulted with them once and they've continued the correction. However, they use the term "Tread Width" in the calculation where they should have said "Section Width".

Firestone Recommended Tire Pressures - A way to find the specified tire pressure for vehicles. I'm assuming these are US only vehicles. I've by-passed the main site and linked directly to the selection page. The main site is a consumer portal for their repair services.

Tire Rack's Main Page - I use the main page to research what's available. But the links below are likely more useful.

Barry's Tire Tech.com: Wheel Weight Chart 2005 to 2018This is an application chart showing what wheel weight types fit on what vehicles - OEM wheels only!

Top Tire Review: EU Tire Label Database - This is a database of EU Tire Labels. This database might get updated from time to time.

Barry's Tire Tech: EU Tire Label Database - This is the same database as immediately above, but my own copy in case that webpage disappears. I probably won't be updating the database very often.

Top Tire Review: UTQG Rating Database - This is a database of UTQG ratings. This database might get updated from time to time.

Barry's Tire Tech: UTQG Database - This is the same database as immediately above, but my own copy in case that webpage disappears. I probably won't be updating the database very often.

Code Table.net - This is a list of &# codes for special symbols

USE THIS ONE!! Alt-Codes.net - This is a list of Alt Key Codes - they also list Decimal (&#) and Hex (&#x) codes,
